Camberwell Registry Office/The Crooked Well: Sonoko & David
That dress though: I had to wait to see Sonoko nearly as long as David… but it was worth the anticipation. So delicate and understated and yet paradoxically such a strong statement. I didn’t know whether to expect a Kimono, but loved that Sonoko added a nod to her Japanese culture with cherry-blossom-like detail, but still did it her way.
The area where David and Sonoko tied the knot is very urban and we had discussed, prior to the wedding day, the possibility of finding a park to take pictures in. The groomsmen let out a little waver of disbelief as I led them into a Morrison’s car park, but Sonoko understood the beauty and the juxtaposition of what I wanted to achieve immediately. The yellow wall, with the off-white square was the perfect frame. So afterwards, when I led them down a little side street of garages, there were no complaints – just an opening of the eyes as they started to see what I could see.
The reception, at The Crooked Well, was understated but done beautifully. Food came on serving platters and consisted of Beef Wellington as the main course. Yum! The space was the perfect size for an intimate wedding.
One of my favourite weddings of 2017: I hope you like it too?
